Delays in processing samples for urine N-terminal telopeptide analysis

North West London Pathology is experiencing delays in processing samples for urine N-terminal telopeptide (NTx) analysis due to manufacturing issues affecting the NTx ELISA reagent kits essential for analysis. This issue is beyond the laboratory's control and is effecting providers across the UK.

The manufacturing issues are expected to be resolved shortly, with reagents potentially being available in just over a week. However, a backlog of samples is expected, which may affect turnaround times in the short term. The laboratory will process samples as quickly as possible.

In exceptional circumstances, where urgent analysis is required, contact the laboratory.

Alternative bone markers remain routinely available, including serum procollagen type 1 N-terminal propeptide (P1NP) and serum bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP)

If you would like to discuss this issue, please contact the laboratory service.
