Diabetic Acute Foot Podiatry Service: NMUH

The North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH) provides an acute diabetic foot service. .

The service will:

  • reduce major and minor amputations
  • reduce A&E admissions and length of stay
  • improve patient outcomes, including morbidity and mortality

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

Diabetic patients with:

  • hot, swollen foot
  • foot ulcer with sepsis, cellulitis
  • new foot ulceration
  • sudden onset of foot pain (Charcot foot)
  • gangrene/ischaemia
  • puncture wounds/foreign body in the foot

Exclusions

  • non-diabetic patients
  • routine nail care
  • routine callus/corn removal
  • missed routine community podiatry appointment
  • critical ischaemia (see vascular pathway)
  • leg ulcers
