Offers appointments for children and young people with unusual, complicated, or recurrent infectious diseases, including returned traveller screening and tropical or parasitic infections. Family infection clinics are available, and the service collaborates with the Hospital for Tropical Diseases. 

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

  • CYP aged <18 years
    • CYP aged 16+ can also attend the emergency walk-in clinic at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases

Unwell and suspicion for tropical infection (recent travel to tropics)

  • Refer immediately to local emergency department (please call ahead to the paediatric SpR to ensure appropriate isolation on arrival to ED).
  • If specialist non-emergency input is required in addition, please email.

For acute symptoms (eg. fever, rash, bloody diarrhoea) and suspicion for tropical infection (recent travel to tropics)

  • Refer by email with urgent priority.

Infection screening

For infection screening for unaccompanied CYP seeking asylum and refugees, refer by email.

Self-referral

CYP who have travelled to the tropics within past six months and have symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, or rash can self refer by email (including name, date of birth, and mobile phone number).
