The adult spinal neurosurgery team assess, investigate and manage various spinal conditions.


Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

  • Degenerative spine following assessment, investigation, and management by their local Musculoskeletal service

  • Spinal trauma including vertebral compression fractures

  • Spinal infections

  • Peripheral nerve conditions

Exclusions

  • Patients with suspected spinal cancer should be referred according to the cancer network guidelines via the 2WW pathway

  • Patients with confirmed spinal cancer should be referred to Neuro-Oncology via E-RS

  • Patients with metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) should be referred via the local acute oncology service (AOS)

  • Patients with benign spinal tumours should be referred to Neuro-Oncology via E-RS

  • Patients with suspected cauda equina syndrome should be sent to their local Accident & Emergency Department for urgent assessment

  • Patients with degenerative spinal conditions should be referred via their local Musculoskeletal (MSK) team for assessment and investigation

  • Patients requiring correctional surgery (e.g. scoliosis)

  • Patients under 16 years old
